| 171859 | 2003-08-31 04:35:00 | I have a Toshiba Satellite 2100 CDS laptop running Windows 98 and until now Ive used it with a conventional PS/2 mouse. Ive now bought an optical mouse, which sends the Toshy crazy. Its a Genius NetScroll + Eye and had no software with it. In desperation I visited www.geniusnet.com.tw and downloaded the driver ns.exe, which turns out to be a self-executing zip file; I let it do its stuff, restarted the machine with the optical mouse plugged in and still I have mayhem. Am I trying to do the impossible by attempting to use an optical mouse with this platform, or is there a way to fix my problem? | Mike S (1766) | ||

Have you tried the mouse on another PC? It should plug and play on pretty much anything - the drivers would only provide added functionality like scroll wheels etc. |

It ought to allow either mouse to work, so if you start up with the optical one held very still so it doesn't interfere, you might be able to use a "sane" one to get into the Mouse page of the control panel, and reduce its speed. |

It seems its' producing the equivalent of left-clicks as well as pointer movements, in that I can whiz my pointer all over the screen using the conventional mouse and apart from the desktop menu popping out no other menus actually open. I have yet to try the mouse on another computer. Mike S |

| 171866 | 2003-08-31 05:46:00 | Just a thought..... Is the new mouse a USB type connected to a USB port? Is it a PS/2 mouse. Is it a USB mouse connected to a PS/2 adapter? All we know is it's optical which says nothing about how its connected. More info may help. :-) |

| 171867 | 2003-08-31 05:46:00 | Unfortunately there have been a few posts made here regarding problems with USB mice (mouses) on desktop PCs that could not be resolved. If Graham L's suggestion doesn't work there is probably very little you can do to improve things other than going back to your PS/2 mouse. :-( | Susan B (19) | ||
| 171868 | 2003-08-31 06:08:00 | It's a PS/2 optical mouse connected withoput any adaptors to the same PS/2 socket that I plug my conventional PS/2 mouse into. That sounds pedantic - not meant to - just trying to be clear about what we're looking at! Mike S |
