171800 2003-08-30 23:09:00 I'm thinking about buying an LCD monitor, however I like my games and heard that an LCD monitor aint as flash for that sort of thing?

What are your opinions of that?

I currently have a 17inch CRT , would a 15inch LCD suffice for that? or should I get a 17 LCD also? I dont necessarily want to go bigger.

What are the advantages and reasons that those of you have them, purchased them for?

Thanks

171801 2003-08-30 23:47:00 I have a 17inch LCDand a geforce 5200 graghics card with 128 MB DDR ram. Everybody said it would be fine for games but its not. When I play battlefield 1942 and the screen cant take it everything blurrs it looks terrible and you have to stop the game for a minute or so until the problem is fixed( I usually die in that time). Also i cant get the resolution above 1280x1024 and i hear that games coming out at the end of the year look best at 1600x1200. I do have to say that the colour is alot better on a LCD. ihatepcconnect (4478)
171802 2003-08-31 00:31:00 This topic has been talked about before, so you might want to do a search for them, they might have useful information as well .

I have a ViewSonic 15inch LCD, which is roughly same size as a 17inch CRT .

Re gaming - i dont have a problem, I have played Battlefield 1942 with no problems, same with other similar game .

Maybe the problem that other people are having comes down to the type of LCD monitor they have . I might be wrong here, but some brands might be better than some others . . . ?

171804 2003-08-31 01:41:00 For serious gaming get a decent CRT monitor mine is a 21" Diamond view faster refresh rate and brighter plus size can easily be altered not to mention a lot cheaper . you do need lots of desk space though and they are very heavy to move kiwibeat (304)

171806 2003-08-31 02:52:00 How good an LCD is for gaming will very much depend on the quality of the monitor. Generally speaking you pay for what you get. It doesn't always work that way though, make sure to look and experience them for yourself to see how they go and read lots of reviews.

An LCD monitor is designed to only work well at one resolution, outside of this native resolution it won't be anywhere as nice to use.

171807 2003-08-31 05:59:00 I don't know a great deal about it - but my understanding is that one of the critical factors for whether an LCD screen will be good for games (i . e . fast moving graphics) is the response times . These are the times that it takes each pixel to power up and down .

I believe you should be looking a response time of 25 milliseconds or better . LCD's with that sort of spec tend to be newer and dearer and that's why others have said 'you get what you pay for'

Actually, if a salesman tells you something like that and it turns out to be not true then you have grounds for compensation, ie replacement or refund .

171809 2003-09-01 03:09:00 I have a Samsung 171s (17 inch LCD) and it is great for games. No problems with it. I have tried several resolutions and none of them have failed on me. But then again, I don't play much games on my PC Crazkilla (4482)
