172472 2003-09-02 05:33:00 I have just purchased a HP pavilion f1503 windows xp, OE deletes all attachments saying they are unsafe. I sent all my old stuff from old puter and OE deleted it all, even jokes and photos get deleted, can I ease up the frigid OE.
Thanks for any assistance given

172473 2003-09-02 05:37:00 lanky,

From within Outlook Express: Click Tools | Options | Security
and untick the option "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus"

Cheers, Babe.

172476 2003-09-03 09:52:00 As well as following the good advice above, for the emails you have already received if you chose the forward option and then instead of forwarding, open the attachment you will see it ! Why that works I do not know - but it does !!

Been there, done that.

172477 2003-09-03 11:55:00 almost the same problem I am having except that my attachments arrive already opened and do not appear in the attachments bar?
Does anyone have an answer for that, its so far stumped every IT person I know, and my ISP as well.
I'm running IE6 and OE6.

172478 2003-09-03 12:07:00 Are you sure it is an attachment you have received.

Is the paper clip showing to indicate this.

What you are viewing might have been sent inline in the message body.

172479 2003-09-04 06:08:00 Yes paperclip shows up next to email in my in box.
Everything is as it should be apart from the fact that the attachment (small jpg icon)is missing from the attachments bar, this space uder the subject space at the top of the page is completely blank!
The attachments are already opened but I cannot forward them.

172480 2003-09-04 16:09:00 My $10 says it is HTML e-mail, and the images in it are being retrieved from the web.

Usually used by those spyware infested Outlook add-ons, the little smileys and emoticons etc are often stored on web-servers.

OE will often display an attachment icon for html e-mail, forgetting it has already parsed the html into the display.
