172281 2003-09-01 12:29:00 Hi

After downloading and running the update for Adobe reader from Adobe website.............I get a message:....."the system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation"
How to fix this or get around it?
w2k, adobe6

Thanks

172282 2003-09-01 12:32:00 you will need to be loged in as administrator to install it. robsonde (120)
172283 2003-09-02 08:52:00 If I understand correctly, I am logged on as administrator..........at least that's what the the user's tab in "users and passwords" indicates.............it lists FredZundapp as user and administrator as group.
This PC is second hand, previous history largely unknown............it's the first prob of its' kind during the 12 months I've had it.
Can someone throw some light onto this situation...........if there is an additional administrators section, I don't know the password...........how would I work around that........?

172284 2003-09-02 09:24:00 Try system policy editor. In Win 98, START/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Policy Editor.

To open the Software Installation snap-in

Open Group Policy from Active Directory Users and Computers, from Active Directory Sites and Services, or as a stand-alone Microsoft Management Console snap-in.
To assign software to computers, double-click Computer Configuration. To assign or publish software to users, double-click User Configuration.
Double-click Software Settings.
In the console tree, click Software Installation.
Where?

policy_name Policy
[Computer | User] Configuration

172287 2003-09-06 05:36:00 .........now I've really torn it!.............not being able to find any system administrator controls or even able to verify who or what is an s.a......
I deleted the adobe ver5.............oddly enough, I was able to do so without any warning message re system admin policies.!!
I downloaded a fresh copy of adobe6 and..........."system admin policy prevents this installation" message.
So, the questions are.....
How can I verify who is sys admin.?
How can I work around this, (especially as I don't have any password/s)?
Why would this just happen now, after more than 12 months use?
Can I do away with this group policy/sys admin setup?

w2k,IE6
Note, I need no password/s to use this computer now.

Ideas, hunches or speculation invited.
