Wake on LAN or wake on ring maybe. You use Callista as I remember it. This to get bookings etc.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Will read other posts further down.

172139 2004-09-15 11:27:00 Beetle are you saving the changes on exit from the BIOS, usually you have to activley slect yes or Y to save the changes you have made or it will revert back to the settings you had or even Setup Defaults. Try in the power setting in both the desktop > right click > Properties >Power Management or in Control Panel > Power Management and in the modem properties in the Device Manager, this all assumes XP is similar in those things to win2k.

172140 2004-09-15 11:34:00 I am no further ahead in this problem, cant find the WOR setting, but a power on ring setting is disabled,

i can see no fix myself, apart from me remembering to disconect the cable.
my eyes cannot see what may obviously be there, just not got a geek brain to decipher it,
have surfed in and around BIOS to no avail,

pain in the back side. and dont need to save something in BIOS if i havnt changed anything - exit without save is my option :D

but the point to change something from disabled already would be?

no mans land here, beetle is sinking badly, thanxs for all help.

if anything changes ill let you know.

If you can't remember to pull the phone jack, try the really basic stuff from when you were a kid. We turned things on & off from a switch on the wall - and still can.

1..Shut down computer.
2..Turn off power switch to modem.

The comp can't re-start until you turn it on.

Rough & ready answer meanwhile.

172144 2004-09-15 15:24:00 Hi Beetle
Another way of finding out what program etc might be doing this, try going into Start>Search>All files and folders.
1. Don't put anything in the file name or word boxes.
2. Click on button by "when was it modified"
3. Select "specified dates" in drop-down list.
4. The to and from boxes will have todays date [Thurs. now]
- Put in 15th[Wed] if you remember the time that the phone rang and started the computer.

5. Click Search, and all programs, files, folders etc used that day, and the time it was used will come up. If you know the time that the computer was definitely off, like no-one was using it, yet there are entries there during that time you might be able to get a clue what is causing this.

I often use this to check when I did things or if I have installed something and all hell broke loose, I can see what files etc were being used at that time. I can also see when AVG does its updates etc.

Best of luck anyway, and don't lose faith in Peaches.

Beetle,

In the fax service manager/telephony (check cavalry) there is a setting for "answer next call as" make sure this is all off.

This may also explain why it cuts off your call, Ie, you are not a fax, or a modem, click.
