172118 2003-09-02 08:19:00 I don't use XP beetle, so go back to earlier posts in this thread for some ideas.

Either that or Google it, or wait for an XP user to post the place to look.

Cheers

172120 2003-09-02 10:36:00 Don't be afraid of the BIOS beetle, its just a lot of settings. If you go in and change things all over the place you'll get into serious trouble, but if you go in looking to change only one setting you should be fine. If it doesn't work you just go back and return it to what it was.

Normal convention is, use your arrow buttons to get to a setting and Pageup/Pagedown to alter it. Esc to back out. Dont forget to save your settings(if you have altered anything) and confirm. Just take it slow and if in doubt write down what you have done as you do it. That makes a good reference.

172122 2003-09-03 06:30:00 Hi beetle, every bios is a bit different so you will have to do a little browsing. Just hit Del on startup(as soon as the screen comes up), you may have a different button than Del, if it don't work check it out or post your MB model and bios. Anyway it brings up a menu, navigate by using the arrow keys and hit Enter to open, the menu option and Esc to back out. As posted before, pageup and pagedown will alter the setting.
Nothing will change until you SAVE the settings after you have backed out to the main menu, if you don't save everything will revert to previous settings.
Your best bet is to just locate the setting first. Just browse around until you get familiar with the layout and navigation. Knowing you are not going to change anything will give you a bit more confidence. Once you are happy with how things work click on the RTS setting( noteing what it is now) and press PageUp to see alternate settings. After that reset it to what it was and back out without saving. just be a bit careful when answering the question about saving at the end, you usually have to do an extra arrow switch to actually save the settings.
After all that go and have a nice cup of tea and after your shattered nerves have settled down soak up some confidence when you realise how easy it was. Then go back in as change the setting, back out and save, and its done! Just as easy to undo, if needed, at a later date.
Sorry I don't have RTS but it probably only has enable/disable

172124 2003-09-06 00:25:00 ok had a look in bios and think its all ok now i have changed it will test later when not wanting to work on the puter .

but question : why the hell does it always stuff peoples normality when you hve to go into the bios area . . . . . is it because you may stuff the puter? LOL no worse than a hammer id say?
but if you do something wrong is it repairable from in there or not?

and no i didnt do anything wrong followed the instructions to the letter . . . .

just wondered how much non repairable damage someone could reek in that part of the puter?

thanxs all for posting in this threads post, all posts appreciated . . . . .

172125 2003-09-06 03:39:00 Most damage done in the BIOS is when settings are changed out of range of the hardware you are using. As an example, overclocking if done without a lot of caution can cook your CPU. Most of the settings can't do much damage, and if tuned to your system properly, can make things run a lot better.
You need to be systematic in altering settings and have a good idea what you are doing. Just going in and altering things to see what they will do, or to what you think is better is not a good idea.
<www.rojakpot.com is a good place to start to get better informed, just go slowly and alter one setting at a time(take notes of what you did) and you can safely optimize your machine without compromising stability.

172126 2003-09-06 03:45:00 ok seems all fixed ...not starting when phones rings now....

thanxs for the help Rod ger much appreciated.... not that i want to rush off and do anything to my puter just at the moment ( or ever) in regards to the bios...
if it aint broke dont touch it!!!!!
and as had not had much time to or for learning about why and what to do in the bios .. have not taken on board what people ask about it much...
just that it stress's people put big time going into the deep dark depths of it (especially noobies)
thanxs all
