| 172869 | 2003-09-03 23:11:00 | Good morning, when I try to use floppies in my machine, it says it cannot read them because it cannot find WORDPAD.EXE, the same applies with some emails I get. I do not have wordpad on my comp, only Works 2000. Is there a way around this, I have two computers at separate places and cannot use floppies for assignments between them because of this. Any ideas? Thank you.. | amazon (3976) | ||
| 172870 | 2003-09-04 00:49:00 | Have you by any chance had a virus infect your computer? There are some that masquerade as Wordpad.exe, and replace your genuine Wordpad.exe file. If your PC was cleaned up, that could be why the file is missing. Or if your PC is infected thats another reason perhaps. To find the file, we need to know which version of Windows you are using. In XP, its located at: "C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe" No reason why you could not copy it from one PC to the other as far as I know. Why its missing is a key issue, and hence why I ask about viruses. What virus protection do you run, and is it fully up to date? |

| 172871 | 2003-09-04 00:57:00 | Hi, godfather. I am running 98se on both computers, and as you mentioned I have just copied from one comp to another, so it is there now..but...is there a way to get my floppies to open with Works instead of wordpad? It is a totally different layout to works, which looks identical to Word....confusing.. wordpad was on this comp, but was uninstalled, one of the more stupid things I did! So between my two computers, one opens floppies in Word, and the other in notepad, bloody annoying, which is why I would like it to open in works if possible...just read this 10 times and it might make sense!! I have AVG which runs daily, and spybot, I defrag etc on a regular basis, and doregular trojan scans. |

| 172872 | 2003-09-04 02:46:00 | OK. My concern was why wordpad had dissapeared, now I know Using Windows Explorer: Select a file of the type (extension .txt, .doc etc) that you want to open with Works. Right Click the file while holding down the Shift key Select "Open With" If Works isnt listed, "Use Program" or whatever the option is in 98, and navigate to where Works shortcut or exe program is. Tick the box "Always open using this..." That should set the association. It might be a little different as its years since I last used Windows 98, and I tend to always open my files from within each application, so file associations do not enter into it. |
