2003-09-03 22:04:00 | I was on a web site and unknowingly in the bakcground, the site was download a plugin for I.E (running XP Pro here) and now when ever I start I.E, it has it's own little bar under the address bar and brings a pop up asking if I want to try to win free money. I have Ad Aware Pro (6) and have run that MANY times and Norton A.V. How can I get rid of this thing!!! Thanks James Peace Out

2003-09-03 22:31:00 | It would help if you told us the name of the little bar that has been installed. Have you given Spybot a run? You might also be interested in a utility that prevents spyware being installed in the first place. Look here (www.majorgeeks.com).

2003-09-03 22:31:00 | Try SpyBot S&D you can get it here (www.safer-networking.org). if you run Adaware as well you'll get some warnings that the programs may detect each others reference file as nasties, don't worry. You could also try looking in IE Properties on the general tab click on the Settings button and then View Objects. In the folder that opens look at the properties, dependencies and version, for each file in there, if it looks suspicious kill it, eg, if it doesn't say Microsoft or Macromedia or Windows Update but lists Comet Curser or Bugs Bunny or ? | 172856 | 2003-09-03 22:58:00 | in future when that box pops up asking to instal activeX click NO. if it auto installed without asking check your sicurity settings, if they are ok then UPDATE your browser as the spyware/adware is useing a hole in your browser to allow itself to be installed. as an added measure you could disable activeX. | tweak'e (174) | |
2003-09-03 23:08:00 | If you use Firebird or Mozilla or Opera instead of Internet Explorer for a browser you won't get this sort of thing happening. ;-) | Susan B (19) | |

I'll give you a discription of the stuff: When I boot the computer but and logon into XP, a little blues (looks like Windows XP styles) comes up with "Home" "Links" "News" "Games" "Music" and then a search tab. Also, in I.E. the bar under the adress bar is called "gqgroeathc". This is REALLY inoying becuase I only reformated last night O_o |
