| 172830 | 2003-09-03 13:29:00 | winxp will not not hold it's folder view settings. E.G. icon/list/detail. i have repeatedly reset in "tools/folder options/views/remember each folders view settings. i have applied while in various folders including desktop and my computer folder views. the reset all to original install view and reset all to current view settings work, but not the individual views setting. i suspect maybe a registry setting or entry has gone west but not sure. anybody got an idea? i have done a sfc /scannow, no luck and even a boot from cd & repair option reinstall, which was a disaster that ruined the system and lost system restore function altogether. had to restore from a drive image file image backup. anybody got idea's or had this before? |

| 172831 | 2003-09-03 19:49:00 | So you want each folder to be able to have different views, and for those views to stay put? Babe Ruth posted this registry hack sometime ago which will alllow you to do this. I have used it myself and it is really handy. I have done a copy & paste from that original post (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz): -----------------------<snip>----------------------------------------------------- OK try the following registry modification, NOTE backup your registry FIRST before attempting these changes. Click START | RUN and in the run box type REGEDIT and press OK navigate to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell NoRoam\BagMRU Export this key by right clicking on the keyname and selecting EXPORT and giving an appropriate name and folder path, Once exported delete the key. Do the same for the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell NoRoam\Bags Restart windows to take effect. You can now modify the settings for each folder and the settings should stay. - Babe Ruth ------------------------</snip>-------------------------------------------------------- |

| 172832 | 2003-09-04 11:53:00 | jenc- when i saw your answer i got so excited, at last the answer. although not an expert (who is) i am not a stranger to editing the registry. so did the edit you suggested no prob. trouble is after every reboot the deleted keys keep replacing themselves. i assume they are mean't to stay gone. incidently my xp pro used to remember the folder settings. so am i deleting those registry keys so they can regenerate or are they supposed to stay gone. because it hasn't worked. tried several times. any further idea's welcome. |

| 172833 | 2003-09-04 12:31:00 | That is a puzzle then, as the keys shouldn't regenerate. Not sure what is happening with your system then. Someone else may have further suggestions. Cheers Jen |
