172863 2003-09-04 04:44:00 OMG! Now nothing in my computer starts! I usally have: ATI Control panel, WinFast Controler (for TV Tuner Card), Sound Max control and MSN start up when the computer starts and go int onto the taskbar. Now they arn't starting! I tried Start - Run - "msconfig" and everything is gone from the start up menu. That has happened? :( JamesStewart (874)
172864 2003-09-04 04:52:00 You werent supose to delete everything that poped up in hijackthis it is not a spyware remover you were surpose to only select the ones related to the surfer bar. Did you read the instructions?
use system restore (if enabled ) then go through the hijack this again and only remove the surfer bar related stuff.

172865 2003-09-04 04:56:00 LOL, its nice to see my computer load up in under 10 seoncds though :P I have got everything back into the start up (just ran the prgrams and they added themselves) apart from my ATI control panel. Does this do anything? Becuase I never use it! BUT if I do need it back, how can I get it into the msconfig start up thing? I dont really want to have to put it into the folder "Start Up", you know, in the Start Menu....

Thanks

James

Peace Out

172866 2003-09-04 05:03:00 im not sure but if you have the disk for the ati you can just install it again.
You always learn better from your mistakes...lol and remember better to.
i should of said it was not a syware remover.
Try some games or something that should tell you if you need it

172867 2003-09-04 05:16:00 And Sandy, you do have to SHOUT : Read The Instructions.! People don't unless you tell them to. And mostly they won't, even then :_|.

But a fast booting computer is a bonus. :D

Just a thought. If your running XP and IE 6 there's another way to prevent programs from being downloaded, in the background, as you surf.

Right mouse click on the IE icon on your desktop.
Go to Advanced tab.
Scroll down the list, in the browsing section there's a check box for the following entry: "Enable Install On Demand (Other)"
Uncheck it - assuming it's checked.
Select Apply and OK out of the preferences dialogue box.

This should prevent programs from installing in the background without proper notice!
