172556 2003-09-02 21:54:00 Check the warranty at a authorised Canon reseller ... to see if the warranty is valid here.

Nikon as an eg.. warrants non imports bought abroad as national warranty (bought in USA is USA warranty only) on digital .. but accessories and film products are international.. so better check.....

172557 2003-09-03 00:15:00 All that "US warranty", "no warranty on parrallel imports" crap really annoys me.

Does the manufacturer make the product or not? The camera/whatever is still the same product regardless who sells it. If it's new, then the manufacturer should stand by their product. Grrrrrrr. X-(

I agree with that, but by law the retailer who sells the product in the first place has to honour the warranty for the customer and deal with the manufacturer themselves . They cannot fob the customer off by telling them to go and contact the manufacturer when problems arise . They also cannot fob the customer off with "no warranty" as new goods must be fit for the purpose which they were intended for a period of time that would reasonably be expected of that product .

Problems arise when a customer moves from the town/city where the item was purchased and cannot easily return the item back to the shop it was bought from . In that case it could be handy if one could contact the manufacturer directly themselves .

I can do a Canon Powershot S50 for $1175.00, including warranty and GST.

Let me know what you think.

172562 2003-09-03 09:01:00 Thankx guys,

It seems i should wait awhile and wait for the prices to come down.
I am currently in Seattle and was planning on getting one. Had look around in Circuit City (DSE Equivalent), Sears, Traget etc.
After rebate, taxes and stuff it comes down to US$500

Most other ones (online stores) go as low as $420. But i am hesitant on buying over the net and prefer buying in person. But its good Nomad you pointed possible warranty issue. Will go and clarify on this

I spent sometime reading the review and dpreview had this to say about PowerShot S50:

While it's true that the S50 carries all of the excellent features, control and image processing from the S45 it can't be said that the lens is as good a match for the sensor as it was with the four megapixel unit. This is clearly visible in the strong chromatic aberrations which can occur (this is the same thing we experienced with the G5).

Is this a big deal or is the author just being picky?
Again thanks for the info guys

Cheers :)
