Only if they're played in the software that comes bundled, as that will support the remote! |

| 173034 | 2003-09-04 13:28:00 | I think its a good idea. Sometimes I watch an action movie before I go to bed, and its a pain to have to get outta bed and change the volume. It would be cool to get a remote to do that for you and pause the movie etc. I think you might be looking at something that is infra-red and has a thing on top of your monitor and you point the remote at that. I've seen it before used to change powerpoint slides on a laptop or pc, so maybe there is something out there. |

As for powering up and down, you can get a device that does that, however I dont know where from (i've seen it in the flesh.. | 173038 | 2003-09-05 02:28:00 | A lot of "modern" computers have the connectors for irDA present (sometimes as a row of 5 pins on the MB, sometimes as a miniDIN connector. Windows from Win95 supposrts the protoicol. What you can do with it ... that's another question. It's intended for printing, talking to palm computers, etc ... but it shouldn't be too hard to handle other functions. Try a search for "irDA" and a few other keywords on Google. Linux people have done some things, but they're fairly imaginative, compared to Windows users. :D |

Just thinking about it, i figure, if you have some electronic skills you can wire up a relay to the PSU (Preferably an ATX) . Otherwise you can you could use WON (Wake on Network) if your mobo supports it, by pumping a few volts through it to think that it is actually network activity . Turning it off is easy (especially if you have an ATX) you could get the remote to run a shutdown application .
