2003-09-04 05:02:00 | With Windows XP home addition I have been regularly checking for any updates from Microsoft particularly security patches. All of a sudden I am getting the following message :Windows update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page." I went into the windows update troubleshooter and followed some instructions to alter a value in csdversion in regedit but this did not cure the problem. I then did a system restore to last Sunday but still no luck. I have not installed any new programmes or downloaded any new software except for AVG virus update so why should this suddenly happen. It has me concerned and I would appreciate any help. Cheers...........heaton

2003-09-04 05:16:00 | Try going to: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com And make sure not to have WWW in there... Or you'll get that. Otherwise, follow the links from your start menu :-)

2003-09-05 00:47:00 | Thanks for your responses. I have no problem accessing the site but when I start to let it scan my computer for updates I get the message " Windows update has encountered an error " etc. Jim B. I went into the website but all this stuff is way above my head. If Microsoft has changed there DNS whatever that means, then is anybody else experiencing this problem and if so should we ask Microsoft what the hell. It will be the final straw if we are left to the mercy of all the upcoming worms and no way to prevent them with the updates

2003-09-05 03:51:00 | Babe, Thanks a lot. For the benefit of others I went into the site you stated and got as far as step 5 where you check the time and date. Imagine my surprise to find the date somehow got back to April last. When I corrected this the problem solved. Now I wonder how on earth the date got changed. I have only used system restore a couple of times and gone back no more that a couple of days. Once again thanks . cheers.......heaton

2003-09-05 03:51:00 | to do MS updates you have to use IE. opera/mozilla don't support activeX however there is an activeX plugin but i've never had it work with MS update site. | tweak'e (174) | |
