| 173456 | 2003-09-06 21:33:00 | Hi, My Compaq Presario 4504 no longer recognizes the CD-ROM drive. I have re-formatted the hard drive and installed DOS 6, but I cant re-install Windows95 because all I get when I try to change to drive "D" is a message "Invalid drive" Any help would be much appreciated. |

| 173457 | 2003-09-06 22:17:00 | Hi, Try this windows 98 (files.frashii.com) startup/boot disk. When you download it, click it, and have a new formated floppy in your drive to make a 98bootdisk. Then you boot your machine and choose the option to start windows 98 with CD/Rom support. HERE (utils.skull-tech.com) is the standard OEM win98 bootdisk to try as well. |

| 173458 | 2003-09-06 22:44:00 | Hi Pop67, Not that this will probably be of much help, but i have been having the same kind of problem with an old system i have got to look at. I have tried the boot disk thing and still no go, as electronhell suggested - however the bootdisks i used over the last few days were with "universal cdrom drivers"(don't know if ectronshells are the same?), so perhaps you may have more luck with them than i did? I found them Here (www.bootdisk.com) Sorry, i don't mean to hijack your thread, but as i was going to post and saw this thread, thought i would keep it all here :-) |
