173423 2003-09-06 10:09:00 I just ran bootvis with Trace Boot + Driver Delays, 4 repetitions. It was going fine until the last restart. Now, on startup, the splash screen displays for 2-3 seconds, then disappears. After a pause, the mouse appears. Then after a few seconds the welcome screen comes up. Then the welcome sound plays, and a few seconds after that the desktop appears.

Anyone know how I can get back to normal?

173424 2003-09-06 11:42:00 Can, or, have you tried "System Restore" yet? You do have it activated don't you? ;\ electronhell (3374)
173425 2003-09-06 19:55:00 Um, well, no, not really, no. To be honest I did already realise that this might have been helpful. Owell :(

I wondered if letting bootvis optimize the system might get things back to normal. However, I am unable to do this, as whenever it starts to optimize, it says: "Timeout waiting for schedule service to start". Click ok, then it says it can't defrag, please do so manually, and quits. Manually defragging doesn't help, so what can I do?

173426 2003-09-06 20:57:00 I think you need 'Task Scheduler' enabled in services for bootvis to work... Trev O (452)
173427 2003-09-06 21:21:00 Hi, There are other boot optimizes around you could try, some are free,

like MS Bootvis, others shareware. Google around for "BootXP 2", or

search a p2p network. I haven't tried it yet. But as always do your

backup first, and if you have the disk space, turnon System Restore. It

can be useful sometimes. :| You can also edit/tweak your boot.ini file

through Start/Run/ and type in 'msconfig' (no quotes) will gain a few

sec's. And when/if you get your system back to how you like it, backup

your boot.ini file.

173428 2003-09-07 01:38:00 Well, I changed Task Scheduler from manual to automatic (it was on manual because I'm a bit of a no "uneeded" processes freak), and bootvis ran fine, so now my pc boots properly.

Thanks guys!

One extra question: When I specify /bootlog as a parameter for boot.ini, where the heck is the bootlog stored ?:|?

Anyway, it's off to backup I go ;-)
