Tell them your ears problem (like Me!!) & I am sure they will visit. Nobody WANTS to pay Insurance but it is a sad fact of todays society. If you haven't got one, take someone elses"!!! Poppa John |

| 173372 | 2003-09-06 07:01:00 | Well since the post above seems mostly in cryptic: I use AMP as an insurance provider for both Vehicle and Contents. I'm in a high risk category for both, and the premiums are extremely well priced, in fact their contents was the best price I got out of about 10 quotes. Service is faultless. |

| 173374 | 2003-09-06 08:27:00 | I discussed the need for computer cover with an Insurance COMPANY AND THEY ADVISED THAT UNDER A NORMAL household Policy we were covered for $10,000.....If our cost was greater we could cover the extra......we didn't need to...... | olldaddy76 (2539) | ||

| 173376 | 2003-09-06 08:58:00 | Hi Chris. Consumer magazine did an article in April this year on house and contents insurance. One of the profiles was for a single guy living in a flat with two other young people. He wanted contents insurance for his $10000 worth of belongings, for losses anywhere in the country. Of those that would cover this guy, the cheapest were State ($204) with ANZ second. Consumers pick was AMP ($279) as they offered replacement cover for the guys more expensive items (including computer, software, mobile phone and camera), with an excess of $100. (Excess is the amount you have to pay if you have any claim. Normally the higher the excess the cheaper the premiums) AA gave the best cover but it was costly ($362) Chris shop around and get quotes. I hope this helps Smithie |

| 173377 | 2003-09-06 09:06:00 | hi ya, i beleive also your premiums are higher / lower depending on how much property you want covered price wise.... if you have bare minimum of stuff you can have a lower price setting which may mean lower premiums. you can get check sheets from most insurance companys saying what you own and give approximate costing for each item for you to work out how much stuff $$$ wise you have and want to cover. we are with AMP and have been for years and have no probs with them, good personal service. and in the end you get what you pay for, payment wise you can do it yearly, quarterly monthly or i think even weekly depending on who you go with. but if you have heaps of stuff insure it, as replacing something something with out it (insurance ) is not always easy or possible and its worse if its a sentimental item. hope that helps beetle |

A premium is the amount you pay, either monthly, quarterly, annually or whatever. By high risk category, I am under 25, I am flatting, and am studying which tends to make insurance costs higher. Work out what you want to cover, and get an approximate value. Depends on how much you think you own and would need to replace. There is a lot of expense in things you don't really think about. My big ticket items were: Computer Stereo Saxophone Piano Sheet Music CD's Bed Appliances Wardrobe Contents I'm sure I've left stuff out, but it pays to take time to think. I mean if you've got 100 CD's at about $30 each, thats $3000 which is a lot of money but you wouldn't think it looking at them. Once you've got an approximate value, ring around some companies and get prices. You'll have to also address the type of cover you want as it does differ. I'm not sure of the exact terms but the two general types are where you get a pay out for the cost of the item minus depreciation. So your $3000 computer is worth a $1000 payout a year down the track. The other is actual value or replacement value I think where they pay you what it's insured for. Like my piano is insured at $x and if it gets destroyed or stolen I get $x as the value for a payout rather than any less which in my opinion is the way to go. |

| 173379 | 2003-09-06 10:33:00 | I am with STATE and pay about $400 per year for $50k of over for all my stuff anywhere in NZ. I have no named items which will keep costs down. |
