173344 2003-09-06 05:09:00 I was looking at the bbc news online and got a pop-up message from ZoneAlarm to say that it had blocked the bbc from accessing the ports.
I would think that if the bbc news wanted to access one of my ports then it was probably for an innocent and good reason ? Why would this be ?
I guess that it would not be too painful !

Presumably I can add bbc news to "trusted sites" on ZoneAlarm (when I have worked out how to do this).

Should I bother ie is it worthwhile ?
Any comments would be valued.

173345 2003-09-07 00:43:00 I have since gone into IE - internet options - security - and identified bbc news as a "trusted site". Also will do this with Mozilla Firebird when I track down where to do this.

However I think that these actions are probably different from doing the same on ZoneAlarm ( free version) ? Also still cannot think why bbc news would need to access my ports ?

173346 2003-09-07 01:26:00 the site could be checking to see if you have a media player running that will accept streaming video.

what ports was the site trying to access?

Yes, that would be it - because I wanted to run a video from bbc . Anyway, regardless of ZoneAlarm blocking the attempt to check the video ran on Real Network program .

I have not been able to check the port concerned as have since updated ZoneAlarm and the log entries have disappeared in the upgrade .
cheers
