173284 2003-09-06 01:13:00 At start up, the Dial Up Connection window automatically appears and, despite continuous effort to close it by clicking on the X, it refuses to close down. just keeps popping up. I have checked
1] Settings - advanced - to see if there is anything there to give me a lead but can't see anything. Have also looked in
2] msconfig - start up tab - but can't see anything there referring to DU connection.
Perhaps I'm not identifying the right item to uncheck or am I not on the right track at all? .

173285 2003-09-06 01:18:00 Obviously, something is wanting to go onto the Internet. Can be a program like antivirus that wants to check for an update or it could be a piece of spyware/scumware wanting to use your dialup. First thing to do is run Adaware and Spybot (both free off the Internet, to eliminate this threat.
If you use zonealarm firewall, you can see which program is wanting to access the Internet after allowing it to dial.

173286 2003-09-06 01:26:00 There have been various previous posts on this problem. Have a look at these two which may help:

173287 2003-09-06 02:42:00 Thanks so much Phoenix and Jen C for your help. Seems as if this problem is not uncommon I think I've nailed it I have NAV and I've unchecked "Start Auto Protect at Start Up" even though to have it checked is recommended. Have closed down and restarted and the intrusion at last was absent Am now going to look at the other suggested modifications in JenC's links as well. Thanks again. Much appreciated

173288 2003-09-06 02:51:00 Rather than completely disabling NAV's Auto Protect at Start Up (which is not ideal), try just disabling the Live Update > Enable Automatic Live Update option and see whether that works. Jen C (20)
