173177 2003-09-05 06:56:00 Just about to fork out $10,600 for 42" Phillips Plasma Screen with Panasonic Home Theatre..:)
A lot of money - too right. On Retirement and our main interest s watching TV ( boring I know but hey!);) Worked a long time for our bucks and want to make the right decisions. Any ideas??????????

Small Waikato town would it be cheaper to buy in Auckland or Hamilton.

173179 2003-09-05 07:18:00 Get either a decent projector, or rear-projection TV. Plasma isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Plus with home theatre, if you are serious about getting the best performance, I suggest saving the money from your TV and putting it into a decent standalone component package.

173183 2003-09-05 07:48:00 Yes a decent projector is a better idea. Much better price, and you can project it onto a big wall or screen thing. Then you can spend the rest of the money on expensive surround sound speakers. :)

Though if I had $10,000 I'd go on holiday to hawaii and fiji for a couple of months.

173184 2003-09-05 10:11:00 A projector doesn't come anywhere near the beauty of a plasma in my opinion.

If you want picture quality look at a high-end Loewe available from Sound Line (http://www.soundline.co.nz), in the form of a CRT as they're better at the moment.

Grab a look at a FFWD magazine if you get the chance, they're really good.
