173304 2003-09-09 03:39:00 DRM is digital rights management and to fully utilise it you need MS server 2003. It will allow you to declare who can print, edit and view your files which on it's own is not a bad thing but I suspect it will cause a lot of problems. Lost passwords leaving the doc unviewable and what happens when an employee leaves a firm having created a lot of password protected files.
Vendor Lockin means to view those password protected files you are going to have to have access to the MS2003 server and have either the latest version of Word or IE. Will the files not password protected also need the same? I prefer WordPerfect and others use OpenOffice etc.

173305 2003-09-09 05:00:00 If I remember Word Perfect file name protocols correctly, they did not need a file type identifier, therefore those with odd suffixes like .pol or Bk! are just normal WP files.

You may find some with the first part of the file name identical and the suffix as the identifier. In those cases you will have to either rename the file or save it to a different folder.

Incidentally, I wouldn't bother to convert all of your files unless absolutely necessary, I would just change them on an as-needed basis.

Cheers
