2003-09-05 05:17:00 | I am running Win XP. I have seven files in my temporary internet files that will not be removed. By the names of them I dont think they should be there in the fitst place. I have tried all the obvious methods but nothing works.

2003-09-05 05:30:00 | Options: 1) Post the file names so we can see what they are, the better to advise you. 2) Use one of the free download Internet etc. file removers. 3) Use a Boot disk and delete them using DOS. 4) Check the PF1 FAQ for Spider 5-??) The list of options can go on some way from here. Cheers Billy 8-{)

2003-09-05 06:13:00 | DOS boot disks will work with XP, just so long as you are not using NTFS. There are no files that cannot be deleted, just some that fight for life a little longer and harder. Cheers Billy 8-{)

2003-09-05 19:04:00 | OldEric came up with a very interesting solution. It removed the offending files from TIF. But it created a sub folder called 'content. IE5" this folder contains four files with numeric names. They can not be deleted. It also created a new folder called "Locals~1". This folder also has a sub folder called Contents.IE5. BUT WHEN I REBOOT these new folders are gone AND the 7 old entries are back in TIF. If it makes any difference I am useing NTFS

2003-09-05 23:07:00 | The files that you are referring to are meant to be there. There are a number of them for security reasons. Deleting your temporary internet files and history will be sufficient in keeping your computer "clean" or you could use the program recommended a day or two ago, System Security Suite, which will "clean" your computer of temporary files for you in one hit. | tommy (2826) | |
2003-09-06 00:23:00 | It is Temporary internet files I am trying to get rid of! Security suite says it clears them but it doesn't

2003-09-06 03:18:00 | If part of your rebooting includes starting a browser, it will create any temporary files it needs, if you have helpfully deleted them . :D Windows does the same . (If you manage to delete any of the temporaries which your current session of Windows is using, you'll probably crash it) . Temporary files are not meant to be removed by the user . Applications which create them are supposed to remove them when they are finished with them . . . but of course some are "careless" (or crash :D) so sometimes you will get extraneous ones . A check of creation dates will usually give an idea of whether a file is useful . Mostly, if deleting doesn't work, and the names aren't "virus-suspicious", you're best off if you leave them . Sometimes, the system knows best . :O
