| 173676 | 2003-09-07 21:50:00 | Congratulations to PC World in calling for quieter computers . (Sept, PC World, p60 . ) What I'd like to know is, (1)why don't NZ manufacturers use low-speed 80mm or low-speed 120mm fans rather than noisy 80mm high-speed ones? Are low-speed fans hugely more expensive? (2)And if they are more expensive, why can't manufacturers at least give us the option of upgrading to low-noise components . After all, how many people want a noisy "vacuum-cleaner" sitting in their office? I can't see the situation changing unless there is a demand for change so lets support PC World on this one . |

| 173679 | 2003-09-07 23:17:00 | most manafactures use the cheap low speed 80mm fans. it all depends on what you call quiet. also some of the cheapos are quite noisy due to bad balance, design and installation. the loudest fan is often the the cpu fan with its small high rpm sceaming fan. |

| 173680 | 2003-09-08 00:11:00 | I've worked out I have (total) nearly 1/2 a metre of fans (120mm front, 2 80mm on back, 60mm on Video, 80mm on CPU) . And yes they are very loud . . . especially my volcano 9 (thank god for the speed dial) Anyways if you want a quiet try water cooling, the Thermaltake watering cooling kit is around $250, and is apparently a very good entry level system . Or in my case you can get bigger speakers and louder music: Problem solved ;) - David |
