ERROR: Unable to find the system utility `ld`; please make sure you have the package 'binutils' installed. If you do
have binutils installed, then please check
that `ld` is in your PATH.

he has downloaded and installed binutils as apparently it wasn there, but he still gets the same error

this error is a bit beyond me (my computer aint this advanced), so any help would be much apreciated

Thanks nigel

173646 2003-09-07 09:41:00 He should really try using the version that comes with Mandrake 9, search the CD's for the RPM, as its mandrake specific!

The rpm he downloaded may have been a generic one, most likely for RedHat, and so it may have placed the files in places where Mandrake isnt looking!

173647 2003-09-07 23:26:00 There is a specific Mandrake 9.1 rpm, binary or tar for the nVidia nForce chipset on the nVidia site. 9.1's nVidia drivers didn't work for me and have had difficulty getting the downloaded ones to stick. Unfortunately, for some reason Linux and nForce(2) don't like each other all that much at this point in time as I have found (various machine specific) problems with other distro's which all seem to relate to the chipset and/or it's drivers.

It will be a matter of; keep searching (google, forums) for a fix that someone has posted. Heres a selection of the ones I have found:

Linux & Asus A7N266 (www.lesbell.com.au)

MDK 9.1 Fixes (www.netikka.net)

Nforce Linux Forum (www.nforcershq.com)

NV News Forums (www.nvnews.net)

nVidia nForce Linux Drivers (www.nvidia.com)

I hope you get the answers you require. Individual machines/manufacturers vary so, the info may not be correct for you. As usual, use at your own risk.
