173806 2003-09-10 03:18:00 Exactly.... but if they DO go into liquidation, I would be keeping all my records and facts straight, including invoices, etc... so you are able to take some action.

Geez, $1700 not that much, eh? ;) ... and you say you're a student!?!?

173807 2003-09-10 03:24:00 > If worst comes to worst I'll I have to buy another computer. What do people think of Dell?

I've heard they are good quality, although after looking at their website the upgrade options didn't suit me. It may be worth ringing them to clarify details. BTW, many computer labs at uni are full of Dell PCs that seem to work okay.

If you live in Wellington I would nowdays definitely recommend Quay Computers - their service is excellent, and based on a Pentium bought in 1997, the machines can last a good six or more years (if you can put up with Windows'95!).

173808 2003-09-10 03:25:00 I suppose I'm trying to talk myself out of getting all worked up about it. When you consider the fact that PC company employees may have no where to work anymore, it makes my problem seem way less important. Hannah (4531)
173809 2003-09-10 03:52:00 At the moment, anything we say is speculation based on ignorance. Have a talk with your lawyer friend, but don't panic yet.

Wait until the dust settles. Then you can panic. :D

173810 2003-09-10 04:25:00 "Speculation based on ignorance" . . . well I'm making the assumption that they are in liquidation . To say that is ignorance is a tad harsh, isn't it??

Other than that, I agree with what you say .

173811 2003-09-10 05:28:00 Across the road from my brother's work is a PC Company store.
When I was walking past them to my brother's work earlier this arvo, I saw some fellas taking down the "Company" sign, and putting up "Factory" signs and leaving the "PC" in place, so it looks like it's becoming the PC Factory....?

173812 2003-09-10 08:11:00 Yep the Jinvik was powered by an almost expendable engine called the Viper. It lasted better than expected so they put another compressor stage on it and put it into production.
The fuel system was from hell it had a variable volume fuel pump, a barometric fuel control unit, rate reset valve for altitude, airfuel ratio control unit, electopressure control unit and pressure ratio switch. All interconnected with pipes.
American engines just had a FCU with all the above stuff inside it, one unit.
New Zealand has one of the most competitive economies in the world. Its dog eat dog no one is making much actual profit. As soon as someone comes up with something new and does well its franchised. Then there are more people doing it and you back to everyone not making much company tax paid profit.
Turnover per month is irrelevant I know of couriers who are actually working for less than 7.00 hr when all costs are taken out. I have absolutely zero sympathy for anyone who buys a cheap computer or anything cheap and whine when the company goes bust. Its the consumers fault they are driving the computer assemblers to undercut the competition by buying cheap computers with cheap internals.
In my job as a mobile mechanic I have tried cheap tools from the warehouse, placemakers, mitre 10 etc. They last about 2 weeks and get thrown onto the road in disgust (and left there)
Isnt there some saying, you get what you pay for?

173813 2003-09-10 08:23:00 Hannah,
The guy from CMANZ (Computer Manufacturers Association Of NZ) said on the news two nights ago the CMANZ was going to stand behind all warranty work on PCCo computers if they go under. I take it the fidelity insurance fund run by CMANZ will also cover non delivery of PCCo computers IF they DO go under.
I agree with Graham L. All this talk of suing etc is just plain ignorance. They only people who know what is happening is Mr Colin Brown and his management group. All the rest of you are just letting the wind blow your tongues around.
NoW, back to Teds most interesting anecdotes! ;-)
