173776 2003-09-09 04:05:00 I used to take my home built pc out to the coast when I was working out there and it was 30 odd k of very rutted road and never had anything come loose and did not hot glue it. Personally I hope I never come across another hot glued PC again as one I struck I felt like I was going to do real damage when replacing some ram.
Some of the complaints about the hot glue was that on one machine they got it in the cpu fan.

173777 2003-09-09 05:25:00 I have seen hot glue used in many different brands of PC's and I would also say it's good idea, if used carefully. i.e. Don't get it in the CPU fan!

Why do you think that now on most decent new mainboards the AGP slots have a latch that clips in place to hold the card in the socket.

The hot glue does the same job on PCI slots.

173778 2003-09-09 06:26:00 Adhesives have been used since the year dot in radio and electronics, especially military spec. electronics. They have been used to secure nuts and screws, windings, components etc. Shellac was a very early adhesive, extensively used in the 20s and 30s.

There is nothing new or novel about the use of anti-vibration or shock resistant adhesives, use of wire locking etc, etc. All aircraft screws and nuts are (or were) wire locked and/or bonded.

The argument was over the amount used, and whether hot-melt glue is an appropriate sort of medium to secure items in place in a computer. In the hands of a clown it is obviously not as it goes everywhere, dripping out the ends of the nozzle. In fact I would say it is a most inappropriate adhesive for such a job, where the use of an adhesive that can be applied carefully with an artists type paint brush would be much better.

From all the reports on F1, and the examples I have seen in second hand PC Co machines at Turners Auctions, the quality control left much to be desired, and I had the impression it was left up to the individual applying the stuff, rather than someone following a written QA procedure with a suitable QA audit/follow up inspection.

173779 2003-09-09 06:47:00 You should all regret the possible passing of another NZ PC manufacturer. It means less choice and jobs lost.
I have read many complaints from many people about the PC Co on this site, but anyone who bought a budget machine got what they wanted - a cheap PC!
The problem with the industry is that margins are cut so fine that nobody is making any profit, and really, there is no point in being in business if you are not making a profit! You people all want the cheapest PC, all want free software and a lot want free music on the web. I would ask, what do you do to earn a living? I suspect that (if you are in work) that you expect to be paid a fair rate for what you do or make, and yet you expect others to make stuff for you for nothing! Get real!!! That is not how it works! If you want good gear and software, good music and literature, then be prepared to pay for it just as you would expect to be paid if you were the producer. If nobody makes any money then nothing will be made, and we can all fade to dust.
Personally, I hope the PC Co survives - a lot of people have had a lot of enjoyment from their products.

173780 2003-09-09 06:55:00 Cheapness is no excuse for poor quality Andy. The Mini was cheap, but it well fitted the purpose for which it was built, with minimum problems. Terry Porritt (14)

I happen to delve/read all the posts including all yours - especially after I read your "kick em while they are down" type remarks. I am more worried about the people who work there and might have lost their jobs. If it ever happens to you Powa, you will have a taste of your own medicine !!!!!!
Your comments about another alias, make about as much sense as the crap you write in this forum by the way!
