173617 2003-09-07 10:24:00 Wellington being my home town I suggest Quay Computers if you have time. I don't know of anyone else in Wellington I can recommend.

I have shopped and bought at Quay Computers in the past and been quite happy with the service, I had to return a bad RAM stick to there some time ago and the new one arrived before they could have got the faulty one back.

173619 2003-09-07 21:54:00 It is amusing seeing so many people recommending Quay Computers.

When I worked in Thorndon Quay and Molesworth Street (mumble mumble) years ago, we used to buy fish and chips from this family! And very good fish and chips they were too.

We moved away from Wgtn in 1981, but I knew their shop had been demolished to build the new court building in Molesworth Street.

I got quite a shock when I first visited Quay Computers about 8 years ago, and recognised the people behind the counter. I reckon this is an excellent example of upward mobility!

I agree with the recommendations to go there - their service and product range is the best I have come across in Wgtn.

Upward mobility? From flogging off fish and spud bits to flogging off imported computer bits? Cleaner! Less smelly! Upward?? :D :D

173621 2003-09-07 22:29:00 I wondered if someone would question that! Not to disparage chippie shops (wot would we do without them?) but Quay Computers has:
1. no smell, and it is cleaner, as you say
2. no fat, fish bits, salt etc in or on staff hair
3. probably a higher profit margin!
4. more stimulating for the staff I should think! Computer products change and develop all the time; dead fish and spuds tend to be fish and spuds until they are cooked or decompose...
5. they have a national clientele, instead of a purely local loyal following, hence I imagine their turnover is greater.

Finally, and this is the killer, they probably don't have to serve MP's and drunks the way they used to. I should think that their client base has improved in quality and behaviour! :-)

You win.
Perhaps a little less freedom in the tax area. ;) ;-)

173623 2003-09-07 22:39:00 Hmmm. I hadn't thought of that!
