Of course we do! They supply the service to us, the public. Without us they wouldn't be supplying anybody. We PAY them for any service, and because of the money we pay them we have a right to tell them what we want. If it were a free service I would say we wouldn't have much say :) Mike. |

| 173548 | 2003-09-07 06:25:00 | what I was getting at is that we have the right to "ask" we do not have the right to "demand" | robsonde (120) | ||
| 173549 | 2003-09-07 06:28:00 | Yes we do... Economics calls it "Supply and demand", not "Supply & ask". We can demand better value for money - we expect value for money, and when we don't get it, we have a right to demand it. Mike. |

| 173551 | 2003-09-07 08:05:00 | There is the option of boycoyting (if thats how you spell it) telecom. | JamesStewart (874) | ||
| 173552 | 2003-09-07 08:06:00 | Damn right. Telecom do not have to listen to our demands but we have every right to make demands. Telecom will simply choose not to listen to the demands of us Kiwis over ADSL. Simple really. |

| 173553 | 2003-09-07 08:21:00 | I was on Xtra dial up for yonks... About six years and I was happy with the dial up service I had. When I wanted Broadband it wasn't available where I live ( Tokoroa ) until fairly recently. I could have got an IHUG satellite connection or Jetstream about six moths ago but was then aware that wireless brodband was coming here. I looked at the proposed prices for the wireless, IHUG and Jetstream and waited for the wireless. I am now on my second month of wireless. All the Internet I can eat. No caps. No extra (if you excuse the pun) for International traffic. I am told before Xmas we will also have in place VoIP phones with free local and cheaper National and International calls, This service costs me $55.00 + GST per month. The phone will be another $10.00 + GST per month. All this when I live out in the boondocks. It's just too much happiness!!! :-) :-) |

I know someone who > signed because they hate Telecom/Xtra and are on > dial-up. Have only signed once! I want ADSL, but to be honest... I dunno about how viable it would be. Give me 10 gigs (International... Ihug offer unlimited National Bandwidth) @ 256Kbps and they'll have another customer on JSS! |

| 173556 | 2003-09-07 10:06:00 | I can see your point but it's fairly simple here. Economics "Supply and Demand" refers to Demand for a service and the number of providers of that Service. In economics if the demand goes up then the price will also go up given the same providers. When prices go up other providers will see a market and jump on the bandwagon thus more supply and prices go down again assuming the same demand. We also have to compare Apples with Apples, If I want an Apple then it's no use offering a Pear at a lower price as it were. Your comment about value for money is appropriate but is a different issue. First ascertain what you want:- For me this just happens to be a computer where the CPU runs at 18,000 Ghz and I walk in and talk to the computer and instruct it to do my tax return. I don't think I can DEMAND that just yet... Nor do I want to ( really). Most people can be more inventive than computers when it comes to taxes. :-) Demand drives research, suppliers, manufacturers and workers. Supply drives prices. When it comes to "Value for money" then only you as the user of the product can decide whether you are getting that. As the user of a product you may have certain rights if it doesn't work etc. YOU ALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE WITH YOUR POCKET!!! If you decide you don't want a certain service or product then don't buy it. If you decide you do want the service or product then do buy it. Check retailers first. Prices may, and do, vary for exactly the same product. For me I decide what I want.... A seagate 120 Gig hard drive or whatever.. That's the research... No use the retailer saying you want a Maxtor, IBM, Western digital as we are back to the comparing Apples with Pears again. Then again of course we get to the point that you can actually afford the other Hard disk. If you are lying on a park bench through the night then you probably can't afford (or need) ANY hard drive. I have met the odd person whom goes to several shops whilst driving a car in an effort to save money on grocery items, They can save maybe 3-5 cents per item and use more petrol and time. Sorry for the long post but I just had to say it. After typing all this in I suggest you type into a search engine like google:- "Caveat Emptor" Let the buyer beware!!! You might also think about "Cutting the cloth to suit the cloth" Just my 2 cents worth, |
