173502 2003-09-07 02:37:00 My Win2k system has a Dick Smith HaM modem and when I connect it won't disconnect. So I click disconnect and walk away or go play a game without noticing and it hold up the phone line.

Wass goin on??:|

173503 2003-09-07 03:09:00 Could be incorrect drivers, a broken relay that opens/closes the line, a short in the cable connection, faulty power regulation.. loads of things.

Unplug and re-seat the phone cable.

Update the driver.

Disconnect other telephony devices from the line and try with them disconnected (can cause voltage/current differences on the line).

Return to DSE for refund.

If you do return it, rather than get the same modem again, throw a bit more money at it and buy something a bit higher end. Those HaM modems are the cheapest of the cheap and perform as such.
