| 174204 | 2003-09-09 21:21:00 | Hi there I recently bought windows xp professional oem. On the cd it had the label service pack 1a. Anyway, I installed it had it working for about 3 days. In this time I installed a lot of software packages like Macromedia Studio, photoshop, Microsoft Office and a few others including Tweak-xp which my friend showed me. Anyhow yesterday I did a bit of tweaking with tweak xp as it was the first time I got it. I tweaked a lot of settings so I can't remember in detail. I also installed themes with style-xp and a custom boot screen with style xp as well as a login screen. Today when I tried to the turn the computer on, it doesn't get to the boot screen and it just has a black screen. I go to safe mode and it loads all the drivers up till MUP.sys Then it stops. I tried every other option, last config, normally. None work. I try booting from the cd but it always brings up that "windows didn't shutdown properly, what do you wanna do?" So I can't even boot from cd. I do have a second computer which is this one and I was considering if I should just format the drive from here and then reinstall xp? Couple questions: Is this what I have to do? Any other options? And what about windows activation coz I had already activated. Thanks |

Only difference is that now there is an operating system on the PC so when you try to boot from the CD it will ask you to Press Any key to boot from CD... and give you about 5 seconds then if you don't press a key it will boot off the HDD. So check to see if that message is coming up. |

| 174207 | 2003-09-09 22:21:00 | If I wanna formatand reinstall, if I put my drive in this computer and install xp from this computer but into the other ones drivewill it do it right? as in will it put the registry and crap all into that harddrive? | Kibito (623) | ||

You may want to look into this area first and see whether this makes a difference before you launch into a reformat. | Jen C (20) | ||
