174156 2003-09-09 10:53:00 Does anyone know how I can use MSN Messenger to communicate between computers setup on a home network.

I realise it may sound anti-social, but it would be really convenient.

Thanks,

Bill

174157 2003-09-09 11:08:00 Unless the computers are online you will not be able to use MSN Messenger. Depending on which version of Windows the computers are running you could however use Winpopup and/or Netsend. tommy (2826)
174158 2003-09-09 22:42:00 I do believe you'll be outa luck.

The closest thing would be to look into the future of Instant Messaging:
http://www.jabber.org

Jabber lets you communicate across other protocols (such as MSN, Yahoo, ICQ etc.) and you can also host your own local server, which would be a plus in your scenario.

May be worth a look into :-)

Cheers

Chill.

BTW - if you get a Jabber client, send me a message, Chilling_Silence*@*Jabber*.*org without the *'s :-) I may be able to help out a ill more.

174162 2003-09-09 23:45:00 I don't know what everyone is suggesting, there's programs that are what you want, even an exact take off from MSN Messenger called Peer to Peer Network Messenger, which is open source too.

I looked into this program and thought since it was exactly worked like MSN Messenger and had the same like that it was neccessary to alter it, or else you could face trouble from the big giant. It's a big rip off to it, but it does what you want. So if you're good at programming I suggest getting the source for that program and changing it so you don't get in trouble. You could however just run that program and hope no one finds out of it.

174164 2003-09-10 00:09:00 Yea that's it, I think. Been a while since I've looked at it as I needed a similar program like that in a business environment. so I researched on those types of programs. I think I stripped that one clean of things that weren't neccessary as I didn't need emoticons, and it just had to have a simple layout, also got it to allow offline messages Kame (312)
