173931 2003-09-08 11:18:00 I want to change a registration in user.dat but Win95 will not accept the new file. regedit does not modify user.dat either.
Is there a way to do it?

173932 2003-09-08 21:25:00 Together system.dat and user.dat make up your registry. Don't mess with them unless fully backed up. I don't know which registration you are trying to change, but if windows number, that can be done in the registry no problem. Maybe a litle more info, like what you want to change and windows 95/98/me ? Pheonix (280)
173933 2003-09-09 08:13:00 Its a Win95 PC and I want to remove my name and initials from on a micro soft splash screen that comes up as it loads.
regedit does not find the name, export and edit then import does not find the name but does change other things. I can see it in the user.dat file but directly editing the user.dat results in a replacement of the file with an earlier one presumably it is protected like a program file.
Is there some hidden entries that regedit cannot disclose?

173934 2003-09-09 09:04:00 Are you talking about the MS splash screens (Win95) that start when you boot up the computer?? I think they can be edited if you find logo.sys, and a few other .sys files (remember to back them up first). Change them to .bmp and then edit them in paint, then rename back to .sys and replace.

If not what program's splash screen are you talking about? You could edit the registration details within the program (MS Office).
