2003-09-10 00:11:00 | Hi Foolishly, I said yes to the "automatic update" that WMP9 offered me. When the update had arrived, I read the terms and conditions for the update ARRRGGGG.... I don't want Microsoft to monitor my applications and phone home about how I use my computer! Actually I don't pirate media, but I strongly disagree with the principle here! Now whenever I start WMP9 it comes up with the Accept or decline the conditions. Declining throws you out of the app! Is there any way to go back to the previous media player? Thanks Vaughan

2003-09-10 01:02:00 | I would reccomend installing some sort of firewall software (zonealarm is good) and seting it to disallow any outgoing connections from MP9 this is the only way you can be sure they are not monitoring you (short of pulling out the phone jack) | cbcnz (4542) | |
2003-09-10 01:03:00 | You could get another player. There are heaps of them around that are miles better than WMP9 and much faster to load and don't use as much memory. | PoWa. (3243) | |
2003-09-10 01:07:00 | unfortunatly to use all the functions of the wmp9 codecs you really need wmp9 installed. i would be inclinded to install it and use another media player such as zoomplayer. | tweak'e (174) | |
2003-09-10 01:11:00 | opps forgot to add, one way to get rid of wm9 is to install it then uninstall it. you may have to reinstall your previous ver of WMP. | tweak'e (174) | |
2003-09-10 01:20:00 | You could do a system restore if you have this switched on. | -=JM=- (16) | |
2003-09-10 01:40:00 | I use mediaPlayer ver 7 on 98SE works faster I also prefer zoomplayer can set it as the default it uses the codecs from Media player etc but offers more options I also block outgoing stuff with zonealarm pro | kiwibeat (304) | |

2003-09-10 03:16:00 | Using Zone Alarm and another player sounds like the best bet! Blocking all access to the net for WMP will also block CDDB lookups and other uesfull stuff in WMP Unfortunately, it's only a temporary strategy as some time in the future I'll have to buy a new laptop which will no doubt come pre-loaded with all sorts of MS spyware! My advice to all is don't accept updates to WMP! Once you download the update there is no going back if you don't accept their (unreasonable) terms and conditions. There is no uninstall for WMP. The only option in the control panel is to remove access to WMP from the start menu and desktop! Thanks everybody

2003-09-10 03:46:00 | Interesting. :D I thouight that no-one was allowed to say that any software was for "Windows" unless it had an working uninstall function. Doesn't apply to MS?
