There's more police manpower poured into South Auckland for example, than the more affluent Eastern suburbs or North Shore. I have no idea what the ratio is, but it stands to reason that there's more chance of offenders being brought to justice in South Auckland than elsewhere. And because the area houses more Maori, then that becomes a major factor in the disproportionality. If we talk about appalling crimes against the person such as incest, pederasty, wife beating et al, those are most likely to be covered up by residents in the affluent suburbs, and not reported. Such crimes become more of an offence against their middle to upper classes and more desirable they be hushed up. It is not a good image for them. Fraud is more socially acceptable. Those crimes that aren't hushed up are at least dampened because the families are more likely to move in influential circles that can help them achieve that. Yes, there is disproportionality, but not of ethnic origin in itself. |

If you are a kiwi there is a good chance you are a fraction Maori too... Most of the "Maori" people I know (and see every day in my job) are fair skinned and never spoken a proper Maori word in their life. Anyone can tick an ethnicity box... I mean look at our last Census... Religion - Jedi! |

Before we can solve the problem, we all need to actually acknowledge there is one. This is the issue their culture faces, people just not being willing to admit there's an issue in the first place, or they pussy-foot around it like you have, trying to shift the blame. Wake up! Why are there more police in South Auckland? Because there's more crimes being reported out that way... Same for in West Auckland, the crimes are significantly more likely to occur in Massey / Ranui than they are in say Avondale, Pt Chev or Te Atatu Peninsula. |

The incidence of crime reporting is down. The incidence of apprehension and successful prosecution is up, because of the tactical increase in police man power. But the problem will not be solved by the racist posturing of labeling it an ethnic issue. It isn't an ehtnic issue, and to call it so is not fair on the good citizens and neighbours who live peacefully within the law. To be honest, I'd love some hard statistics to back up your statements. So far I seem to be the only one who's been able to provide any to back up my perspective. |
