1322380 2013-01-11 05:54:00 Gmail has excellent filters and i have added a couple rules, no spam hits my inbox anymoreI dont use my gmail account, ts gets so much spam its not funny, I only go in the clean it out about one a week and by then there are 100s of them. I've never used it or even entered it anywhere, just to much rubbish since day one. Iantech (16386)
1322381 2013-01-11 06:27:00 Getting through to your inbox or in your spam folder? If it's getting into your Inbox then that isn't normal for gmail. Alex B (15479)

Any suggestions?

1322383 2013-01-11 07:30:00 Odd I have 4 gmail accounts, one is used exclusively for entering competitions and other such stuff and even that one might only get 5 spam emails a month. My main accounts get so few it's not worth worrying about. I also have an MS outlook (ex hotmail) email address using the same first part as my gmail account and that gets no spam either gary67 (56)
1322384 2013-01-11 08:42:00 Sorry guys

You missed my point.

I am not interested in using G mail as to me it does not look businsess like to have an Gmail account.

I am not interested in making spam filters better as they may stop legitimate mail getting through.

My main point is not about spam filters.

But all the worlds ISP's getting together.

When one address is clearly sending scam mail (like the bank or IRD messages) then the ISps should report them to the originator and their account should be closed.

1322385 2013-01-11 10:21:00 It doesn't look business like to have ISP mail either.

If you look into that spam, it looks like it's coming from a legit source. We use mailmarshal at work (it's due for an upgrade, about 5 years old) But what would you suggest, block all mail from Kiwibank, IRD etc. Because it could be spam? What about if it's a legit email from IRD? You can't win. You can not do it by email address, you have to do it by patterns in the message which is no where near as easy.

1322386 2013-01-11 10:31:00 Was it hotmail that blocked all telstraclear e-mails a couple of years back? Think of the chaos involved if that kept happening. the_bogan (9949)
1322387 2013-01-11 10:37:00 Perhaps you missed one of mine :) - scammers use fake addresses and in some cases hack computers and use them. If they were using a normal E-mail account one assumes they would long since have been caught.
Unfortunately there are some intelligent scumbags out there, you'd think they could put that talent to work making money legitimately.

I've intended to migrate to Gmail for a while now, but the hassle of tracking down everything I registered one of my other accounts to puts me off. Also I've occasionally run into problems where businesses wanted an ISP based address and wouldn't accept Gmail, hotmail, etc. I do like the Idea of a portable single address that is ISP independant though.

Currently I have 3 E-mail addresses (actually there's probably 1 or 2 I've forgotten) and I just set my tablet and smartphone and thunderbird all up to check all 3 and show a combined view.

1322388 2013-01-11 10:55:00 The problem is that the scammers/spammers are in cahoots with an ISP half the time. The other half (OK I don't know the proportions) of the spam sources are bots. I host my own mail server and have devloped/evolved a system that removes 99.9% of all spam. I use a combination of common antiSPAM techniques. Works for me and the only ones that seem to get through are those pesky Bank ones. HAL9000 (12736)

Yes I know that once you start sending a lot of emails ISP's don't allow it and you have to go to an email mailing service who charge you. They have their own servers etc, that can send millions of emails a day.

So I don't see how the ISPs can benefit from people sending spam.
