Friends 8 year old asked if he could have a minecraft server setup so he could play multi player with his mate(s), I uggested she say no until I worked out what's involved and how much control she would have over who got invited to use it. Also how much BB it would use.

I don't know anything about this so am asking here for input please.

Thanks in advance :thanks

1322806 2013-01-14 20:12:00 Minecraft *chews* through data. It's not so bad now (It was an absolute whore back in the day) but it'll still burn through it like nobodies business...

It's easy to whip together a server, it's even better if you don't put it on the web (No port-forwarding the router) and require your friends kids friends to connect to it via Hamachi (Kids these days are smart, it'll be easy for them).

Finally, you probably wanna look into something like this: www.minecraftwiki.net

1322807 2013-01-14 20:28:00 I've played over hamachi before, me and six others burned 14gb of net (at the hosts end, I was a lot less for just me I would imagine) in under 7 days just from Minecraft alone (we weren't even playing that much). This was during like version 1.2 or 1.4 though. I believe playing online now uses around 100mb/hour. icow (15313)
