1322760 2013-01-14 03:31:00 I can receive email, meaning the pop3 settings are OK but I can't send - SMTP? Sits on port 25. This changed suddenly about a week or so ago. With Xtra, Win7, T-Bird

Thanks for all advice

1322761 2013-01-14 09:01:00 Do you get an error message when it doesn't send?

If you have a gmail address you could use that for sending.
My gmail is smtp.gmail.com, port 465, Normal Password, SSL/TLS,
But Tbird is usually pretty good at sorting out the settings for standard ISP email accounts. Have you tried reinstalling your account?

They have more than one setting for outgoing server. Try the others.
Why?
Xtra mail is crap.

1322764 2013-01-15 16:25:00 "Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server send.xtra.co.nz timed out. Try again or contact your network administrator."

This was the error message. Tried coldot's idea - no luck.

1322765 2013-01-15 16:36:00 Timeout = no response from server. Either the settings are wrong or extra's SMTP mail server is down.

Try ring them to make sure it's all working from their end, then try locate the settings and input them manually for xtra. If manual input doesn't work ring them again and go through help desk.

1322766 2013-01-15 17:44:00 Saw this this morning on Stuff :

Telecom says a cut in the Sea-Me-We 3 subsea cable that runs from Perth to Singapore is delaying the delivery of some Xtra emails .

Spokeswoman Jo Jalfon said the cable was cut five days ago but Telecom had only recently been informed of the problem by its outsourced email provider, Yahoo, which used it to route some Xtra traffic .

About 30 Xtra customers had called to complain about undelivered mail, she said .

Jalfon said the cable cut would not be affecting incoming mail .

"Telecom is advising customers to check with their email recipients if they are sending urgent communications and to resist resending emails as this could create congestion," she said .

Yahoo had re-routed email away from the impacted cable while it was being repaired and was working to clear the backlog of delayed emails, but Jalfon said services were unlikely to be fully restored today
