1476809 2021-04-27 03:12:00 Should you find yourself unjustly attacked by boredom in the near future, you could attack this challenge (www.youtube.com).
With a bit of luck you might really put some zest into your local KFC (or other FFJ* of your choice) server' lives as their overlord screens unaccountably go berserk.

That would hardy be worth either the beer or the pizza needed to fuel the effort.

1476812 2021-04-27 21:45:00 dammit. Now I want to play Doom again.

Doom was the game that really taxed my 1st 2 PC's (and Quake, Duke). I played Doom in B&W , I coulnt afford a fancy colour monitor .
it started the never ending updgrade cycle , my 286 just couldnt cope :-)

1476813 2021-04-28 01:49:00 Yea Doom was a fantastic game - the first real fps I played from memory - they were pretty much just "platform" shooters before that.

John Carmack really took gaming ahead back then

With the old 'shareware' software sales model , I wonder how they made any money.
Especially considering how common software piracy on PC games was back then.

I was so impressed with Doom, and so relieved to finally break free from the 2D scrolling games that I made a point to buy the full versions from their shareware stuff, even if I had obtained it by other means prior to purchase.

My hardware could handle the original doom, but I'm now about 2 iterations behind the current release due to my old processor simply not being up to it, and my pockets being too tight to willingly make the upgrade.
