| 1471786 | 2020-09-12 08:42:00 | I use Filepuma.com to check for updates for certain programmes on my laptop. They push one of their products -Update Checker. I find ,however that Update Checker dos not list all programmes that have Updates -e.g. Opera browser. I then log off Update and go to Filepuma.com and periodically find programme updates missed by Update checker. A few weeks ago on Filepuma's website I sent a query re what is the reason for theses variances? I got a fairly quick reply -"thanks we'll get back to you asap. "Weeks later I still have not had an answer. FileHippo was the same -except they did not even have a "contact us" tab. Are these "contact us" tabs -robots which generate auto responses and no human follows up? Comments please Thanks |

| 1471787 | 2020-09-12 21:40:00 | Why? Windows will update itself. Drivers should be left alone unless there is a need, and then you get them from the manufacturers website. Applications, Adobe, Thunderbird, Chrome, whatever software you use will tell you (if you have this enabled in settings) when an update is available and you can choose - or not - to update. I'd be leaving dodgy programs like this alone. |

Most programs have a Auto update feature or at least you can check yourself should you want, generally from the Help options. Are these "contact us" tabs -robots which generate auto responses and no human follows up? Some are some aren't. |

| 1471789 | 2020-09-13 06:50:00 | Piroska and Wainui I understand your comments BUT My question was about "has anyone experienced similar difficulties in getting a response from such websites . Ref you mutual suggestions e . g Spybot Search and Destroy . They mistakenly sent me a "semi" paid version which does updates each time one logs on to internet . They followed up with a "mistake" you need to download V2 . xxx . xx BUT nowhere on their website is such version to download . With Opera I joined their forum to raise a question as to how can I download and save updates . Several other Opera forum members supported me . , I did get an answer but the methodology is convoluted and erratic . I like to download the installation file and save it to another disk before installing such update . . That way if I need to change machines (like I am about to do) I do not have to spend a huge amount of time and data usage redownloading the installation file for each programme I wish to retain . I had mentioned my practice several months ago in another post which at that time related to FileHippo . I also find that some programme websites are not "marketing savvy": about promoting their "improved updates' and one finds out from communicating with other users . I always enact a full security scan for each installation . |

You don't . Dodgy software people aren't interested in your questions . So skip it and do as we said instead . Why download an install file? I used to keep (windows) install files for other software but not every updated version of them . Too easy to just update or go grab one if need be . Get your windows install sorted, then do an image of C: That way if anything goes wrong and windows is trashed . . . . a few minutes restoring that image saves the day . But just to update a program??? Leave them to update themselves, when they want to and forget these sites altogether . |

| 1471791 | 2020-09-13 21:55:00 | Are these "contact us" tabs -robots which generate auto responses and no human follows up? Comments please Thanks You are getting the level of support that you should expect from a FREE program . They wont be paying staff to follow up on every enquiry . Usually, if you want any sort of official support, you have to pay for it . re the Snake oil crapware ; they are giving the level of support that snake oil salesmen would give . As for downloading just the update as a file : most software simply doesnt have that option any more . "That way if I need to change machines (like I am about to do) . . . . . " . . . . . . . do it properly & download the latest version, rather than try & hack together something from old versions & old updates . You dont use engine oil from your old car in your new car . :) |

| 1471792 | 2020-09-18 08:33:00 | Good luck getting support from those sites. If they even read their emails, yours will probably be buried under a tonne of spam and endless RTFM questions. | Agent_24 (57) | ||
