1477163 2021-05-26 07:24:00 Well the forecast for us is 150mm or rain this coming weekend, so we will see. gary67 (56)
1477164 2021-05-26 07:35:00 Whose forecast, Gary? And is it specific to, where ? WalOne (4202)
1477165 2021-05-27 08:03:00 It seems Gary isn't answering - not home, out to lunch perhaps ...

In the absence of a response, I could surmise he possibly may postulate Ring's forecast being for the "North Island and top of the south", that his (Gary's) slice of Godzone is in the top of the south and therefore will experience any deluge of the wet stuff (or not as the case may be).

However, Hamner Springs being 1) situated as it is loosely in the North Canterbury region and not TOTS will probably be spared any deluge of the aforementioned wet stuff, and 2) it (Hamner Springs) being widely lauded for its own spectacular and much envied microclimate, will on both counts according to Gary, prove Ring's forecast woefully inadequate and wildly inaccurate.

So my call is for a return to a level playing field, and see what happens to the claimed forecast area - North island and top of the south. That excludes Hamner Springs. Let's also realise the forecast is for a general time frame, i.e. it is not specifically starting at 00:01 on one day and ending at 23:59 the same day. Rather a day or more either side of the date.

And also appreciate the bane of any weather forecaster. That is that their forecast may be for the entire island to have wall to wall wet stuff. But there will always be somewhere at least one homestead, one village, one town, where if the sun hasn't shone all day, has not had one drop of rain. Where upon the residents will not hesitate to cast scorn upon - absolutely useless (and worse) idiots - and vilify the hapless forecaster. No matter the forecast was essentially correct.

So let's see what transpires "around the 1st of June". On an apples for apples basis

1477166 2021-05-27 08:56:00 Well just for the exercise here is the Norwegians take on the Tauranga weather until the end of the weekend.

Given they haven't been wrong for Tauranga up until now this is where they should totally screw up. :D

I'll post June when it comes to hand.

1477169 2021-05-27 19:26:00 Couldn't get back to the forum any earlier than this morning but here is the forecast for the weekend (www.weatherwatch.co.nz) up to and including Monday 46mm Saturday, 79mm Sunday and another 36mm Monday.

Yr has different totals but agrees on the rain forecast (www.yr.no)

We will see, but I will check all the downpipes when I get home from work today to make sure they are clear, fill the wood basket and then relax as have a couple of books to read this weekend.
