That was very interesting, thank you, Zqwerty. And as BM said, nothing new but an intriguing article nevertheless. And do you remember Carmen? I certainly do. Quite a character.:D

Hell, until I looked at the list, I thought you meant Oscar The Grouch :) That would be upsetting!
Soo...... Google tells me it was Bert & Ernie - just a rumour though.
(The Muppets, for the benefit of those who don't watch any American TV. ) ;)

Ken :) :)

1476333 2021-04-21 07:43:00 Re Oscar Wilde, I'm surprised you didn't know about him being gay, BM, I thought it was one of the things that made him well-known besides his wit.

My grandparents were still mortified by the scandal in the 1950's, he had an affair with a rich man's son and it ended badly with Oscar in jail and eventually dying there I seem to remember.

Before he fell into dis-repute he made a speaking tour of America where he came up against some scathing American wits and came off second best a couple of times not because of any references to his being gay but just due to faster mouths.

Here's a beautiful example of Oscar's wit:

Oscar Wilde Quotes

1476334 2021-04-21 07:59:00 You see Roscoe you are in tune with Oscar Wilde as far as you both feel about America. zqwerty (97)

On reflection I think he nailed it. :)
