| 1476333 | 2021-04-21 07:43:00 | Re Oscar Wilde, I'm surprised you didn't know about him being gay, BM, I thought it was one of the things that made him well-known besides his wit. My grandparents were still mortified by the scandal in the 1950's, he had an affair with a rich man's son and it ended badly with Oscar in jail and eventually dying there I seem to remember. Before he fell into dis-repute he made a speaking tour of America where he came up against some scathing American wits and came off second best a couple of times not because of any references to his being gay but just due to faster mouths.
