You have missed the point that not everyone at WDHB is an IT "expert" like you, and not so adept at identifying problem emails. I'm the LAST person to make excuses for others, but some of these messages are getting pretty sophisticated and when you're busy, can easily be opened. |

And I worked for several large organizations, DHBs, corporates etc. F&P for instance included dos and don'ts in their new employee sheet, given to them on first day. And regularly sent messages etc on things Not To Do. DHB never did. No it wasn't the same DHB but still. And see this: www.stuff.co.nz They paid them!!! |

Ive seen , on several occasions in various companies , where those do's & dont clearly stated , were ignored the very next day. Even when its written that they could loose their job for doing so. Thats what humans do. There's allways those few adding to that BYOD (bring your own device) is the most stupid idea ever . Companies think its great as it saves them money, but.... Letting staff use their personal phones, laptops and home PCs access companies systems . The same home PC's that junior & dad are on porno sites & installing cracks are being used to access company files, databases & emails . Theres allways those few users...... Then you have Small Company owners literally letting their kids play on the PC's after hours , infect 1 pc (so its now slow) then go to the next . PC's with confidential client info. Accountants are the worst for that, I dont know why as they are smart enough to know better Staff Leaving the workstation logged onto the company bank a/c while they wander out to lunch for an hour , too common . Too many people honestly dont care . Its a miracle these crypto & hacking issues dont happen more often . :-( |

But this isn't a small company nor a BYOD group. It's a govt run DHB. Actually I used to go to lunch and stay logged in at Webdrive. But of course no-one could even get in the building there and the only ones round my PC were other staff...if someone did something dumb they would have been shot....no-one was that stupid. Plus we had extra logins when we accessed the servers...so messing with the PC itself didn't get you anywhere except locally.... At the DHB I didn't, nor at any other place I worked. Anyway checking staff know what not to do is step 1. Images and backups are step 2. |
