1477143 2021-05-15 21:05:00 Because the 5G celltowers are used by the Illuminati to control the weather
Norway makes the 'special' weather controlling electronics

And everyone knows they're powered by orgone, which was invented by Donald Sutherland.

1477144 2021-05-16 02:24:00 Best is not relying on either fully for an mid- to extended forecast. A mix of a multiple gives a reasonable safe tendency. Been using yr.no for years after a tipoff from a heli-pilot. Accuracy of local weather varies for any of them. notechyet (4479)
1477145 2021-05-16 04:59:00 Been using yr.no for years after a tipoff from a heli-pilot.

Well this must be NZ’s best kept secret. :crying

And the other bonus is I don’t have to watch some WOKE on TV telling me about places I’ve never heard of.

Yeah, it doesn’t matter if they are usually wrong anyway I guess. :D

1477146 2021-05-16 05:16:00 Metservice forecasts are actually incredibly accurate (except for the date which has a margin of error of +/- 5 years 4.725 months).

;)

1477147 2021-05-17 23:56:00 My curiosity into how the Norwegians are able to be so accurate with their weather forecasting came up with this, courtesy of Google.
Seems they have been at it for a very long time and weren’t always as accurate.

CLIMATE CHANGE:

The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consulate at Bergen Norway.
Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone.
Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes.
Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm.
Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.
Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds.
Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coast cities uninhabitable.

I must apologize. I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922 , as reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post 99 years ago. This must have been caused by the Model T Ford's emissions or possibly from horse and cattle farts.

1477148 2021-05-18 01:02:00 Interesting, I'm going to follow this for a while.

My first reaction is, the Norwegian site is user-friendly i.e. it presents in a non-technical jargon and with easy to understand graphics. But essentially it harvests the same raw data as any other "forecasting" site, from the same reporting stations ... not so much a forecast but a "nowcasting" service extended to take into account local variables that have been identified. Talking here about say, West Auckland weather in the lee of the Waitakeres is wetter than say Auckland Airport. Cook Strait and Wellington winds stronger and gustier because of the so-called venturi effect of the gap in the North and South Island mountain ranges funneling and speeding up the westerly winds or southerlies. Etc etc up and down the country.

Still hard to beat our own home grown prophet without honour, Ken Ring who continues to provide consistently accurate weather forecasts sometimes years ahead. And hard to beat the accuracy of the "nowcasters" who take the trouble to look out their windows as to what is actually going on out there weatherwise LOL

1477149 2021-05-19 05:48:00 Well Wal, I thought the same as you in that they are all harvesting the same Data, but that raises the question of how is it they get it right and the rest get it wrong for the most part?

(Yes they were right again today for Tauranga.)

Now, I personally, have found Tauranga weather particularly difficult to predict as the Kaimai Range is on one side and the Ocean on the other. Most of our weather comes from the West, so the Kaimai Range plays a very big part, just as you’ve explained the Waitakeres do in West Auckland.

(The Farmers in Matamata approve of the Kaimai’s giving them the water that was otherwise destined for us.)

Anyway, on a different note I decided to give the Norwegians another test to see if I could fool them.

So I said I wanted the forecast for Katikati. (Bet they’ve never heard of the place.)

Bugger me they come back with this. 10902

Not only do they know where it is, they know the height above sea level.

Try again, “Te Puke”, dahhhh they know about that place too, and its height above sea level.
(probably know how many kiwifruit were picked there last season too.)

10903

Getting desperate, wonder if they used the same forecast for all of them?

No, it was blowing 1 m/s greater in Te Puke, so that required me to build a spreadsheet to convert m/s to Km/h and Knots.

Drive a man to drink, they must get it wrong shortly.

1477150 2021-05-19 21:25:00 From metservice:

We got some of the promised rain. Albeit at night mainly and some spits during the day. We also got the promised wind. Glad that's gone now.

Today it is meant to be fine and cool to start. So far it's right.

Sorry to disappoint you BM, but Google Katikati weather and you'll find many sites, for example:

Feeding off the same raw data, most weather "forecasters" are going to interpret it the same way. The geographical and historical data is freely available to anybody to read, weigh up, and interpret it how they wish, and has been since ICAO started their network I think in the 1920's, and the European SITA network. Nothing changes the way moisture makes its appearance the closer temperature and dew point get together, most weather forecasting measure differences between an International Standard Atmosphere (ISA) and corelates those differences into what we can understand as temperatures, wind direction and strength, or in aviation the height where the cloud cover starts and/or the extent of that cover. And the forecasters plagiarise each other's versions of forecasts for the same period and the same area. Such plagiarism has been in many court battles especially in the litigious happy USA, where some forecasts had been deliberately falsified - and some hapless competitor copied them word for word.

How do I know all this? I worked for a time in the 70s for a Houston based custom weather forecasting company that depended on its existence for access to ICAO weather reporting world wide (ICAO = International Civil Aviation Organisation), along with the then SITA network for airlines now based in Switzerland. But that's a long and at times hilarious story providing many side splitting guffaws (and some cringes the average traveler might shudder to learn about). And no one was immune ... the owner of the company once seized and prevented from leaving port, the Saudi king's personal jet at JFK because said king didn't pay his bill. I should write a book LOL

It is with much regret Wal that I must advise that I’m not being paid for my support of the Norwegian Met Service. :crying

However, you miss my point regarding Katikati.

I am fully aware that there are a number of NZ sites that will give Katikati’s weather, but, NZ MetService isn’t one of them.

A lot of them are Private weather stations, run by amateurs, just for a bit of fun.

Anyway, can you find me a NZ based MetService that can give me a forecast for say Lillehammer in Norway? :)
