No, too many overpaid management staff cost cutting and "increasing productivity" and not enough well-paid skilled workers actually doing important jobs like routine maintenance.

You've got me here.

I don't believe that "overpaid management staff and cost cutting" should be in the same sentence, to be followed by increasing productivity. :groan:

We've got plenty of well-paid skilled workers too, frustrated by BS from the Public Service and Government.

From 1935 the Labour government's social policies supported young families with children, and from the 1940s there was an emphasis on preventative child welfare.

1477065 2021-05-09 23:11:00 The Germans must have spent as much.l

Germans used slave labour and resources stolen from conquered countries .
They didnt invade Switzerland as they needed the Swiss to launder money (stolen gold etc) for them .

Many EU countries were almost bankrupted by the war.
Thats why NZ had such a relatively high standard of living in the early 50's , simply because the other countries were broke & had to rebuild everything , so NZ seemed to be doing well .
