1476644 2021-04-20 04:26:00 More to the point: How many of any kind of shootings have we had in the past 50 years or so?

Plenty.
However We dont have many shootings of unrelated or unkown people . More gang, crim, wife/husband sort of shootings .

The US has gone past the point of no return , with gun ownership . Just too many guns in the US to ever hope to get some control over them .

Yes, the powers that be don't seem to understand that the criminal class does not give a damn about the law.

They also don't understand that it doesn't matter what they do if some deluded individual is determined to kill or injure others that there is nothing that anyone can do to prevent them.

That's a very good point. What can they do to prevent a nutter? Very little. Even with our strict gun laws these types can still get a gun and start shooting as has happened recently, so I don't think that there is any way of stopping that type of person.:waughh:

more importantly they intentionally banned crims from handing over guns in the buy back, only licences owners where allowed to hand guns in.

1476650 2021-04-20 10:19:00 It's incredible. Just would not like to live in Yankee Land:

www.nzherald.co.nz WDOB-lkBEBwCFOaLOU#Echobox=1618812447

keep in mind its media making it look worse than it is. ie the first pic is actually all gun related deaths which typically includes suicides.
when you take population into account its actually not all that bad.

btw i think some of the gun laws over there are stupid. no licence required to buy a firearm in many places and other loopholes.

the reason for the story is usa is changing a few laws, especially with a the BIG increase in gun sales, to the point that ammo prices have skyrocketed.
however USA gun law is the 2nd largest amount of laws, after tax law. its very complicated.

It wasnt the criminals doing mass shootings in NZ. The crims only shot other crims (usually)
The "law abiding gun owners" would shoot innocent people .

"Law abiding gun owners " have also sold guns to crims , stored guns unsafely ( eg gun collection left in a car boot & then all stolen ) , shoot neighbors homes with an air rifle (that happened to me)

Funny that isn't it - something the general public just don't seem to be able to comprehend.

Firearm related crime has gone up (www.rnz.co.nz) since the buy back scheme proving what an utter waste of tax payers dollars it was.

I could rant on the topic for hours, but will condense to a little '**** you' to all the politicians that supported the bill.

the last one was because police gave a nut job a firearm a licence. i can't recall the others off hand. the previous big one i'm not sure if they even had licences back then.
crims certainly do not just shoot other crims. there has been a quite a few innocent people killed in the last year or so by crims. mistaken identity or gang initiation etc
