Im sure they will soon stop making them except for servers, NAS's & very high capacity drives. They go the way of IDE's :-) Even then the SSD's are getting larger all the time. One Supplier has a 4TB SSD ( with pricing to match ) ;) |

| 1472453 | 2020-10-23 00:21:00 | honestly it not even a question anymore. www.aliexpress.com get one of these $5 bracket that replaced the DVD drive with a 2.5" bay and either get a 240GB ssd for boot/files/apps FOR LIKE $50!!!!!! AND SEE MASSIVE BOOST IN GENERAL RESPONSIVENESS 1TB is $160 at the cheapest SSD vs $85 for 1TB hdd, these prices are from pricespy. obviously sales and used are gonna be lower, and plenty of people are upgrading from 128GB.240GB drives now that the market is way cheaper/better. so get yourself and your loved-ones, really anyone you care about, GET THEM A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CLASS OF STORAGE. it might not me pcie4 nvme but damn just let spinning rust die..... and with that bracket you don't even need to ditch the spinning rust you have... and for another $5 you can get the cable that lets you just plug the dvd drive into a usb port. JUST GET THE SSD ITS 2020 i have 1TB hdd, 6TB hdd, 1TB ssd, 500GB ssd. my computer is like 6 years old, it had 6TB hdd and 120GB ssd when i started. if you're gaming you want bigger than 120GB. my son and mum sstill ahve 64GB ssd for their boot drives, though im gonna have to upgrade my son's boot driveat some point soon, he's going to be using it way more with the rest of it getting some upgrades due to my personal upgrades |

The SATA Connections are the same, the only difference is the SSD's are 2.5" ( laptop Size Drive) where as with the older drives you can get both 2.5" or 3.5". Thats not really a problems, some cases have the mounting holes for the smaller 2.5 Drives other wise you can get a Drive tray that fits in the 3.5" bays, they are dirt cheap. 10552 |

| 1472458 | 2020-10-24 19:44:00 | SSDs are fast but the more they are used, the shorter the data retention... A well worn SSD can have your data evaporate in a matter of years. HDDs are cheaper and better for long term storage, but are obviously slower. In any case you should have at least 2 physically separate backups of anything really important. |

Brand etc .. really doesn't matter for day to day use it's not like you are running speed tests. 3yr used ... is it new enough to support M.2 SSD? Re: SATA SSD as others have already said much cheaper now even 1TB SSD isn't that much ... In short, I would never ever run the boot drive that is not SSD. |
