1471615 2020-09-06 05:58:00 Installing mint will certainly have deleted those games permanently. That's the One I'm waiting for  --- How the Widows 7 games are going to be reinstalled on Linux.

On Windows (any version) its only a couple of minutes, and most of that time is if you have to download them.

That's why I have them on my work Flash drive, only takes a minute to put them back, in fact on Customers computers I put the install exe on their drives and its easy for them to put them back, double click the exe, click OK, next, install, untick last box so it doesn't open Winaero - Done, 100% working.

1471616 2020-09-06 08:48:00 Not pointing fingers here as I use Linux and Win10, but I do remember a certain Mint convert saying Linux doesn't have faults so having to create and run a different shortcut for Skype that requires using Terminal to sort out really doesn't put Linux in the user friendly that said convert claims.

You seem to have conveniently overlooked the fact that the subject computer worked fine on Win7, Webcam and all.

It was the introduction of Win10 where the trouble started and is still going on.

Let me help you remember.

How short your memory the magical fix for every known fault in the universe is to install Mint. But alas you have been proven wrong yet can never ever admit it.

Indeed, the easiest way to overcome all the problems associated with Winwoes 10 is to install Mint.

Anything else I can help you with?

1471621 2020-09-07 09:08:00 Please explain in more depth. Can name a few things off the top of my head.

This Thread to start - Problems with Camera upside down, trying to run on a OS that its not designed for, same problem exists in a New W10 & Linux, so what was resolved - nothing. FYI- IF YOU DO A GOOGLE Search for "asus laptop camera upside down windows 10" the Very 1st result, dated Feb 2020 has the fix with 3 options.
Wifes W7 games removed - would have taken, excluding downloading time for a 140MB file, approx. 1 minute to put back. Note: took 10 seconds on My speed, and heres the link winaero.com
Ad blocker- could simply be out of date, W10 removes programs that WILL conflict, MANY people don't update add-ons.
The Camera and every other "Fault" could be fixed by reinstalling W7 which by your own admission works fine and wife has knowledge to use.
A while back -- Problem with a Security camera from memory, wont work in WINE - cant remember if it were ever sorted.
Linx is NOT the be all to end all, it DOES have faults, it DOES fail and corrupt.
Windows programs wont run without something like WINE to allow.
Not all windows based Programs have alternative designed for Linux.
Many software developers don't make their programs to Run on Linux, mainly MAS OS (Apple) or Windows.
Personally I've asked only a couple of times on the very odd occasion here and various Linux Forums a Linux Question and from Memory no actual help that would work, anything that has been offered ever doesn't work or no one can actually Answer.
By Your own admission some tasks are out of your knowledge (see Previous point) AND when anyone whom you have "Converted" runs into a real problem I'd be almost certain they would be stuffed.

I'm sure if If anyone looked back there would be more, but that will do for the mean time :)

Just to add--
Indeed, the easiest way to overcome all the problems associated with Winwoes 10 is to install Mint  Most people would actually learn how to solve various minor problems. Heres a FACT The more someone stuffs around thinking they know what they are doing instead of actually learning or asking for help the MORE they make things worse.

I got customers in their 80's and lots in 70's, that find W10 easy to use, NEVER have any problems because anything they aren't sure of the ASK, and 99% of the time theres never a problem. The 1 % is hardware related and that happens on ANY OS.

This!

I fit into the category described above and have yet to run into a problem that I have not been able to resolve using the methods described.

Running a program designed for Windows can be tricky. Even a hardware setup can be tricky if there aren't any manufacturer drivers.
But is that a Linux fault?

A fault, to me, is when the O/S crashes or some such.

Driver issues, installation of software issues can occur on any O/S.

1471624 2020-09-07 21:16:00 Linx is NOT the be all to end all, it DOES have faults, it DOES fail and corrupt.

.

Fail and corrupt? Fail how? Corrupt what?

I managed to kill mine back when it was still a new thing. By rnning some terminal commands. How and why it did what it did, I have no idea, neither does the guru who was helping me, and the one who gave me the commands.
However, I reinstalled the O/S and all was well, having the personal separate from system is a damn good idea as nothing on my side was affected at all. Logged in and there it all was again.

That I do like.
