1471984 2020-09-30 08:16:00 I am gradually losing the various problems with my brand new Lenovo Thinkpad E15. I had to buy a VGA to HDMi adaptor so I could connect my old external 19" Monitor to my new laptop.I only want to use the big monitor when I watch DVDs
The new ada33ptor works and default is set to Dual Display.
When I turned on big monitor instead of displaying what was on laptop screen it came up with an error message "Not in Range".
Daughter's boyfriend suggested that the big monitor may need a lower resolution than the laptop (1920 x 1080.
I went into display settings and found second monitor which by default had same 1920x 1080 but could not find a tab with which to modify resolution. I then did some browsing which suggested that it was best to have same resolution for both monitors.

Can members please guide me on this issue
Thanks

1471985 2020-09-30 18:33:00 The Suggestion by your Daughter's boyfriend is correct. That happens usually when the screen resolution is set higher than your monitor can handle. It can also be the refresh rate is all wrong and higher than the Monitor can handle.

The VGA to HDMi adaptor may be the cause, most monitors have a VGA port, so try a direct cable from the laptop to Monitor.

I then did some browsing which suggested that it was best to have same resolution for both monitors. Not totally correct, while in an ideal world it would be, some monitors cant handle it. Before I upgraded the 2nd monitor here the smaller one had a lower resolution than the main.

1471986 2020-09-30 19:01:00 That laptop is too new to have an analogue video output.

He has a HDMI to VGA converter.

Does the monitor have a DVI port? An HDMI to DVI cable would be a much better option.

You may need to change Windows' display options to have the monitors separate. It may be trying to treat them as one display, which is why you can't change the resolution.

Only going by what he posted
I had to buy a VGA to HDMi adaptor Don't have time to look up every little spec on every device. Either way its the same usual cause for that error.
