1471753 2020-09-08 11:41:00 I tried to scan some very old photos with the above printer.

I couldn't select the actual size of the photo to scan, unlike my old HP printer. The HP scanning software allows me to select the exact size and preview the selection before scan.

A bit disappointed with it, otherwise a great printer.

Or, I miss out something?

1471754 2020-09-08 19:28:00 Have you downloaded the drivers from Brother or are you using what Win 10 installed for that printer. Windows is good at finding basic drivers to let you do basic functions but you need the Brother ones to do anything fancy. CliveM (6007)
1471755 2020-09-08 21:23:00 or...if the manufacturer software doesn't allow it, a 3rd party scanner program?

Vuescan is good.

1471756 2020-09-08 21:39:00 scan as usual , then crop to size with an basic photo editor
ACDSee has a good cropping tool

The issue isnt the printer , its the very basic brother scan software .
At least the Brother driver & software allways works , I cant say the same for HP printer drivers unfortunately .

1471757 2020-09-08 22:03:00 Go to the Microsoft Store - Search For Scan, select the Windows Scan App, its a blue Icon with a White scanner. Install it.

10496

Then from Start open the scanner App ( you can pin it to the Start menu or also drag out the Icon to the desktop if you want making a shortcut)

Open the scanner App, it should detect your Scanner no problems.

I have the exact same Printer / Scanner and it works perfectly, the setting are easy to change as to what format, PDF, JPEG etc.

If you click Preview down the Bottom you can cut / Crop out blank space or select only part of a Picture / text What ever by moving the White circle corners, then click Scan.
