174378 2003-09-10 06:03:00 Hi

I have a problem! Went I start my pc it has 3.16GB on the main windows partition and it slowly gets less and less over a period of a few hours til I have 0 kb free. I have checked for possible viruses (found none) from 2 independent sources. I dont have system restore running and I am completely baffled. I am a relatively experienced user and I have no clues

174379 2003-09-10 06:25:00 I had the same problem with Windows 98 a while ago. I did a virus scan, to no result.

Eventually I just ran disk cleanup and uninstalled a few games, clearing about 900MB of space. I never did find out what the problem was, but I haven't experienced it since.

Thanks for pointing this thread out to me Susan ;)

174382 2003-09-10 10:34:00 I have 3.4 gig of Free Space on the windows partition and it has a 500-700mb swap file. The strange thing is u can have explorer open and every minute or so the hard drive gets smaller by about 10mb. pegboy (4546)
174383 2003-09-10 11:02:00 all i can think of at the mo is something writting very big temp files or restore/goback file. can you pinpoint any new files or any big (gigs) files? tweak'e (174)
174384 2003-09-10 12:58:00 Hi

r u using icq as well? apparently, those temp file that they create each time u open icq (it can be alot of temp files in one day, it depend how many time u open icq) can eventually eat out ur hard disk space if u don't delete them....

windows 98 to eat alot of disk space because of that virtual memory thing win386.swp..... i am currently using Windows Me as well, this machine is AMD-300 with 160MB RAM, 3.2GB hdd... i was so shocked that the amount of virtual memory being taken over, the last time i saw is like 91MB... wot a shocker

174385 2003-09-10 13:47:00 What about find fast indexing your contents still, 3 . 4GB being chewed up relatively quickly is a bit odd .

Try one of these to see if it can identify whats hogging your space . HDD Utilities ( . 2000shareware . com/disk-analysis-tools . html" target="_blank">www . 2000shareware . com) Lots of Goodies ( . bykeyword . com/pages/disk . html" target="_blank">www . bykeyword . com) . I haven't tried any of these so the usual warning applies .
