174363 2003-09-10 05:05:00 I have a home network with 2 computers, sharing a dial-up connection. I am currently using the ICS in WinXP to share the connection. What I'm wondering is how does it distribute the bandwidth available to both computers? Do they get half each, when both are accessing the net? somebody (208)
174364 2003-09-10 05:29:00 basicly just shared equaly with no preference over each other. ie one pc can download at 100% if the other isn't downloading.

what determins how much speed each gets is how hungry the programs are for net access. ie certain browsers will try to grab as much bandwidth as possible.

174365 2003-09-10 06:08:00 thanks tweak'e.

Is there a way for me to set it to "force" it to share the bandwidth equally, so that each computer is assigned 50% of the bandwidth when both are trying to access the internet?

174367 2003-09-10 09:15:00 Somebody,
ICS by itself can't do what you want, and you may want to look at a 3rd part app...

You could use BandwidthController (www.bandwidthcontroller.com/) Trial version is 30 days (buy for $US49.95) or NetLimiter (http:) also a free trial version (buy for $US29.95) or CCProxy (www.softpile.com) free trial or buy for $US49.45, or you could look on Freeware_Shareware (www.webattack.com) where you might find something to do what you want.

Then there are products such as SyGate Home Network, Ositis WinProxy, Deerfield.com WinGate, Kerio WinRoute Lite. etc mentioned (among other things) Here (compnetworking.about.com)

Cheers, Babe.
